This letter from Abraham Lincoln to an 8-year-old boy is up for sale in Philadelphia. The boy’s friends did not believe he had met the President. The letter informs the reader that the boy was telling the truth.

It reads:

“To whom it may concern: I did see and talk with Master George Evans Patten, last May, at Springfield, Illinois. Respectfully, A. Lincoln.”

Next to freeing the slaves, this may be the coolest thing Lincoln did.

And you want it to encompass everything she means to you and the dynamic of your friendship and you want it to be a beautiful gift of words to the person who knows you better than most everyone, and how are you supposed to put 16 years of friendship into ink and onto several index cards to be regurgitated to a room full of people in cocktail dresses and suits?

I got a lot of words out tonight, and for the first time in the several attempts of writing my bridesmaid’s speech (and after months of thought & reflection), I didn’t tear it all up, so there’s a start.

So there’s this restaurant for kids called “Giggles ‘n’ Hugs” in Brentwood and I always joke with Nathan that we should take our laptops and work from there…so one time I went on the website as a joke to email the link to him, and ever since, they send me bi-weekly emails.
