Besties On Ice

Pretty much a blog about my bestie and me ice skating, or just using ice skating metaphors, or really nothing of the sort.

Yes, this one is about you.

I just booked airfare to fly to Vegas mid-July to hang with my parents dad while they’re my stepmom’s there on business for a few days and then drive with them to Yosemite, return to Vegas, then fly home. I’ve never been to Vegas, and my first time will be hanging out with my dad and stepmom, neither of whom drink. Or gamble. I’m not at all concerned about the fact that I’ll be with them, though. I’ve traveled alone with them before (a feat when you’re the middle of 5 kids), having ridden vespas through Tuscany and elephants in India.  I figure my time in Vegas will be my “dry run” (literally) and I’ll do some “location scouting” for the free trip le bf and I have before the end of the year. (Thanks, work!)

As much as I’m looking forward to getting to hang out with my parents for 5 days straight, and as excited as I am to be taking a trip anywhere, I do, however, feel tremendously guilty about one thing - the boy’s birthday will be the weekend I’m gone. Before you think I’m a terrible girlfriend, let me explain this - he has training/certifications the day before and after his birthday, and on his birthday, will be taking a 3 part test (written, physical, interview), so we wouldn’t have celebrated on his actual birthday anyway, and he insists that he’s going to bed at 7:30 that night regardless. (The early bedtime probably has more to do with turning 29 than anything else.)

Still, being the girl that I am, I am sad/feel terrible to be missing his birthday. I’m a sucker for tradition, and even though boys don’t care about birthdays at all in the same way, I hate that I’m missing it. (Obviously am going to make it up, but I can’t write about that here since I know he reads the blog and eagle eyes anything with the key words BF, boy, or mister. My post about Mister Rogers stumped him big time.)

Anyway, enough about that. Am I right in feeling guilty? Or am I just being a silly girl?
